Last summer there was a new farmers market in baltimore right next to the university of maryland on paca street. It was very small but had the best farmer who I like to call farmer roy. Let me tell you a little story. One morning I was on my computer but had CNN on in the background. I hear words like, "Baltimore", "New Farmers Market", "Young Farmer", and I was soon turning up the volume. I soon learn "Farmer Roy" went to an ivy league school, worked on wall street, but has now decided to follow his dream of farming. Yes, I was in love. So the following tuesday I find this market and there he is with a little stand full of vegetables. I scanned the area then went for his table, which was a cart connected to his bike. Could he be any more perfect! Not to mention he's quite easy on the eyes (Am I really typing this?!?). Annyway...he had the best little yellow tomatoes and mixed greens i've ever had. We still talk about them to this day. Unfortunately, now that I have a full time job : ( I can no longer go to this market, as it is Tuesdays at 10am. I do often think about calling out a random Tuesday to go see my dream farmer man but I am too much of a good employee to ever call out sick : ).
I've heard many people talk about the Baltimore Farmer's Market, which is on Sundays from 7-12 under the 83 bridge. Mainly that it's large and gets rather crowded. I had been meaning to go to this market since Sunday is my only day off, but I always have found a reason not to go. And that reason is usually to sleep in and watch the cooking channel. BUT, this past Sunday I decided to be productive! Can you believe this...on my day off I was awake and out of the door by 6:45, headed to the farmer's market.
Although the market is incredibly easy to find, I managed to get lost trying to find parking. Only to find out later that the parking lot right next to it was open...FOR FREE. So by now its probably 7:30 and the market is already hopping. I first walk around, sometimes squeezing myself through crowds of people to find tables and tables of gorgeous fruits, vegetables, flowers, and other goodies. I got some coffee at Zeke's, which added a nice pep to my step and made my way around purchasing apricots, red currants, blackberries, bunches of onions, radishes, and much more for under $20 bucks. Yay! Here's to next Sunday!
Until next time...kab
