Gardening...Issues

In my garden I had a white tomato plant with two huge tomatoes that were just about ready to pick. I have never had a white tomato so I was eager to try. So the day they were ready I went to grab them and ...they were gone!

My first instinct is all the damn rug rats who live around here, but then I thought, I don't think they would be smart enough to know it was a special tomato. A really special tomato!!! And anyway, no other tomatoes had been touched. I even had about 10 cucumbers laying there that were intact, so I didn't think it was a thief. Fast forward to a couple days ago. I was watering my garden and a neighbor shouts across the street, "Saw a huge deer nibbling on whatever it is you grow over there." DEER. I then come to notice the top of my strawberry plant has been nibbled off and the flowers from my eggplant root always seem to disappear.

It's frustrating but I'm not exactly sure how to stop it, besides building a huge fence. The good thing is that most of my huge heirloom and beef steak tomatoes are out of reach. Hopefully. I like animals and I don't eat you guys, but if you touch my garden we are going to have serious issues.

On the bright side, I have way too many cucumbers to eat. Thus, I will be making pickles! In the mean time, I've been eating tomato, cucumber, and vegenaise sandwiches on toast. With lots of salt and pepper. I bet some arugula would be good on this!
